The metaphorical sweet tooth is present in many of us, but so too is our desire for chewing, sucking, crunching and delighting in strange and unusual candy confections. Candy makers realize this and strive to provide us with candy that is meant as much to amuse as it is to cure the craving for something sweet. From gummy spider candies to molded cartoon characters, sweet, sour, salty, crunchy and savory candies are becoming more and more shocking to both the eye and the palate.
The following are just ten of the most unusual and strange candy confections that can be purchased today, and they run the gamut from just plain weird to downright amusing.
Harry Potter – Bertie Bott’s Beans
The Harry Potter movie franchise has brought audiences delight and wonder to tantalize multiple senses, including taste. Bertie Bott’s Beans are jelly beans in disgustingly wonderful flavors such as earwax, grass, sardine, dirt, vomit, booger and more. Each flavor can be identified using the included guide, or the truly adventurous can just dive in and try to guess each flavor.
Toxic Waste – Hazardously Sour Candy
Delight in sour candy is seriously challenged in this candy that comes in a bright yellow plastic drum labeled as Toxic Waste. These wrapped candies come in a variety of flavors but all start out with a sour layer followed by a deceptively sweet layer until the final layer of ultimate sourness assails your taste buds.
Fini Tennis Balls – Lemon Lime Flavor
Fini is a Spanish company whose products include a line of gummy and gum products. One of their more unusual gums is a tennis ball gumball. It looks like a real tennis ball, complete with the bright yellow-green florescent color and is even textured like a tennis ball. But one bite of this particular tennis ball reveals not a hollow center but one filled with an oozy center that mixes a punch of flavor with the gum. One of the more unique features of this gum is that it is packaged in an authentic looking tennis ball package!
Yowser!!
Yowser!!’s will have you yelling what you eat. In my opinion, extremely sour candy never gets old or jumps the dreaded shark. One pack comes with six different flavors for your taste buds to do back flips in.
Gummy Pizza Candy
Made by E-Frutti, these gummy candies are shaped and look like pizzas. Our fascination with candies replicating food does not end there; there are gummy hamburgers, meatballs, hot dogs, bananas, fish, dogs and more. This is what you get when you mix gummy bears with creative minds and a demand for novelty candy.
Oh Deer – The Super Dooper Reindeer Candy Pooper Dispenser
Inside this package is a cute and plump plastic reindeer with yellow antlers that dispenses brown jelly bean ‘poop’ out the back end when you press him down. This novelty candy both entertains and feeds you at the same time.
Wii Klik-On Candy Dispenser
For those of you who need your Wii on the go, this Wii controller shaped candy dispenser is made by Au’Some Candies and will pop out colorful candy when you press the button on the back. This particular controller lacks the high tech motion sensor technology but it will cure that craving for something sweet.
Crackheads 2 – Candy Coated Chocolate Covered Coffee Beans
Labeled as highly caffeinated candy, these white and dark chocolate covered coffee beans are meant to be crunched on just like any other candy snack. The difference between this package of chocolates and any other is that each 1.30 ounce package of these candies is the equivalent of two cups of coffee. Now you can get your chocolate and caffeine fix all in one easy to carry box!
Nik-L-Nip Wax Bottles Candy
Always searching for innovative gimmicks to entice the purchaser into buying, this candy liquid comes in a small wax container shaped like a soda bottle and is designed so that the consumer nips off and discards the top of the wax bottle then drinks the sugary liquid inside. With a whole range of colorful flavors, these tiny bottles are a fun twist on candy.
Chocolate River Rocks

Our fascination with eating things not normally meant to be eaten is assuaged with Chocolate River Rocks. These candy coated chocolates are formed in the shape of river rocks and are colored like them as well. While they may not look identical to real river rocks they certainly are a fun, edible alternative.
Or, go big and make it rain candy! Gumball.com has bulk candy to simulate downpours, and for birthday parties, weddings and vending machines, including their tried, true and timeless gumball machines.

Very entertaining. Thanks for this post. I love the flavour guide.
Good article!! Concise, clear, and just the right level for someone getting started. Thumbs up!
I have had the vomit jelly bean – I thought it was a Jelly-Belly, kids got a kick out of it. There was an earthworm flavor as well. About as disgusting as they come…especially when you’re not expecting it.

I don’t know if these are strange, but they sure are fun. I buy chocolate cigars from The Chocolate Book I use them on girls’ night out, baby showers and other occasions. So much fun.

Great list!! Funny but I’d love to taste some of those…
Hi
I will agree that flavour guide is strange. Just reading some of them puts a nasty taste i your mouth. I wonder if knowing what it says the flavour is helps trick the mind in to extenuating the flavour or not.
Great post made me smile thanks lee
