All about Fish!

Now that we have covered meats, it is time to address fish and how this type food is used in French cooking.

Guidelines for Cooking Fish

Measure fish (dressed or stuffed, fillets or steaks) at thickest part.
Allow 5-7 minutes cooking time per cm of thickness (10 minutes per inch) for fresh fish.
Allow 10-12 minutes cooking time per cm of thickness (20 minutes per inch) for frozen fish.
Fish is ready when fish is opaque and flakes easily.

Already a leader in the charge against unhealthy fats, New York City has now declared war on salt. The aim is to cut the nationwide incidence of high blood pressure, which can lead to heart attacks and strokes.

“There’s been a shot across the bow,” says Marion Nestle, a nutrition and public health specialist at New York University. “I think salt is a huge issue that’s coming.”

Unlike the city’s bans on smoking in the workplace and the use of artificial trans-fats, using large amounts of salt won’t be illegal.

Instead, the city’s health department has launched the National Salt Reduction Initiative, which asks restaurant chains and food manufacturers across the US to pledge to slash their use of salt by specific amounts.

Within five years, the NSRI aims to cut by a quarter the amount of sodium in processed foods, which account for four-fifths of an average American’s salt intake.

So I have been on this health fix for over a week now. I did the detox diet and after 5 days fell off that wagon. During my research of way to get fit and healthy I came across a product called Shapely Secrets which is based on Greer Childers program called Shapely Secrets

A diet of chicken, fish and protein shakes might do wonders for people with brain injuries.

Akiva Cohen of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and his colleagues mimicked brain injury in mice by injecting fluid through a hole drilled in their skull.

After seven days, the brain-injured mice had much lower levels of three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs), leucine, isoleucine and valine, compared with control mice. These are found in protein-rich food and are known for their ability to build muscle.

The team then fed another set of brain-injured mice either plain water or water enriched with BCAAs. Five days later, those that had taken BCAAs had normal levels of the amino acids and performed better on a learning task.

I don’t know what is wrong with me, I fell off the wagon LOL. I just wanted to eat what I wanted to eat, when I wanted it!

My detox is broken, but what I learned from all this is that by making some adjustments to some things I eat, I think will be very beneficial in the long run. Hubby learned that he likes Greek yogurt too!
