Due to the economy school programs have been cut….what do you do when there is no money? Find money! Especially for education, some things are a must!!

According to a 2009 report from The American Association of School Administrators, it is estimated that the number of school districts eliminating field trips will increase by 56 percent. That’s more than 30,000 schools. Why is this important? Field trips allow children to learn by getting out of the classroom and viewing the world through their young eyes.

Lunchables is lending a hand. They are running a contest to provides Field Trips For All. It is their first effort in their new initiative called Project Potential. Aimed at empowering kids with opportunities to help them reach their full potential, Project Potential will provide enriching experiences kids might otherwise not have.

How does this work? Anyone 6 years of age or older can nominate a deserving classroom and submitting a nomination. From all nominations received, 50 classrooms will be selected to go on an inspiring, educational experience. Nominations can be made by visiting Field Trips For All

This is definitely a program that we should all support, and feel free to nominate your child’s school! Education is for all children no matter color or social differences. I nominated my sons charter school, but really every classroom nominated should win. Education is key in our worlds growth! Every aspect of keeping the world running depends on our kids education a key importance.

This is something for your little monsters to snack on while they wait to go prowling the neighborhood in search of candy and treats!

Bloody Popcorn

Ingredients:

- 1 package popping corn
- 1 can butter spray
- salt
- paprika


Pop your popping corn any way you like. Next pour into large mixing bowl and spray popcorn with butter spray, stirring constantly to mix well. Then shake some salt and paprika and stir some more so the popcorn turns red. Really creepy and cool!

Cooking in the childcare setting can be a fun and educational experience for young children. Children learn many valuable lessons from cooking experiences. Here are just a few examples:

  • Children learn new words like whisk, knead, spatula, and grater.
  • Children learn language concepts from the words in a recipe.
  • Children learn social skills as they plan, prepare, and eat food together.
  • Children learn math concepts like: half, a tablespoon full, and three minutes.
  • Children gain science knowledge through observing, investigating, and predicting.
  • Children learn social studies as they explore what food is used in different cultures.
  • Children develop small muscles as they squeeze and stir.
  • Children learn about nutrition and safety, too!

There are many more examples, but you get the idea. Cooking can be great for learning! But cooking also can pose dangers for young children. Knives, electrical appliances, and hot stoves can be hazardous in the childcare setting. But there are many safe ways to involve young children in cooking.


Activities for Children

Preschool children can help select menus, shop with you for the ingredients, carry unbreakable supplies, rinse fruits, break bread into servings, scrub vegetables, dip foods, tear lettuce, shuck corn, break broccoli into pieces, peel bananas and oranges, mash bananas or potatoes, pour cool liquids, mix and stir batter by hand, spread butter and other soft food, knead and roll dough, string beans, beat eggs, snap fresh peas, shake mixtures in covered containers, measure ingredients with spoons and cups, create table decorations, set the table, serve food, and help clean up!

Of course, some children can only do some of these things and others can do much more depending on their ages and abilities. Select and assign tasks that each child can complete successfully and safely for cooking experiences.
